BIOGRAPHY

On 27th June 1983, Alsou was born in the town of Bugulma, Tatarstan, situated on the Eastern Frontier of Russia. Being the daughter of the man in charge of Russia's largest oil company, meant Alsou traveled the world as a child. At eight, she moved to Moscow. One year later, she was crossing the Atlantic to New York, where she spent the next two years. By eleven, she was back in Europe, living in Denmark. It was then a further two years before she moved to London, where she went to boarding school. She liked it so much, she settled here.

Singing at someone's wedding usually has one of two effects. It either clears the dance floor quick, or provides amusing entertainment after a series of dull speeches. Except for Alsou, that is. Standing up at her brothers wedding, aged 15, in the summer off 1998 led to slightly different consequences. A guest at the wedding was so impressed, she arranged to introduce her to Valeriy Belotserkovsky, a Russian producer. By the following Summer, he was to become the manager of Russia's biggest star. Alsou's first single was a hit and it grew and grew with her being awarded album of the year for her debut album 'Alsou'. In the September 2001, she recorded a duet version of Enrique Inglesias's 'You're My Number 1' with the star himself. It didn't stop there, with her signing to Universal Music in November 1999, making Alsou the first Russian artist signed by an international record company.

Alsou had finished recording her first English language song, when her manager told her that it had been chosen as the Russian entry at the 45th annual Eurovision Song Contest. Once she was over the initial shock, Alsou started preparing for event which was being held at the Globe Arena in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.
On the evening of May 13th 2001, in front of 30,000 attending the concert and the small matter of 100 million TV audience, Alsou came second with the highest amount of points ever achieved by a Russian entry. Following the contest, the song 'Solo' was released and became the best-selling single ever in Russia.

After Eurovision, it was into the studio to start recording her debut English language album. Working along side some of the industries best song writers and producers, as well as contributions from herself, track by track, the album was created.
April 2001 saw the launch of her debut single, Before You Love Me, accompanied by a hugely popular video based on the film 'The Matrix'. Alsou received more acclaim when she picked up the World Music Award for Best Selling Russian artist. With her new album just released in Russia and only a month before her International launch, Alsou is poised to conquer the World.
